Hamberley Unveils Flagship Care Home at Historic Bournville Site

04 November 2016

LUXURY care home developer Hamberley has unveiled its most ambitious project to date at the heart of the historic Bournville community in Birmingham.

The award-winning developer worked in partnership with Welltower Inc and Bournville Village Trust (BVT) to build a £9 million state-of-the-art luxury care home.

The 80-bedroom home is integral to Bournville’s new care village, College Green, which is being developed by BVT, the ExtraCare Charitable Trust and Welltower Inc, and will feature a retirement village, nursing and care home, 16 independent living homes and a health and wellbeing centre once complete.

BVT was founded by George Cadbury in 1900 to provide quality homes for people from a wide range of backgrounds, not only for workers from the chocolate factory.

Hamberley Director Tim Street said it was a privilege to have been chosen to partner with such a prestigious organisation.

He said: “It’s been a real honour to work with the team at Bournville and to play a key part in helping them realise their vision of creating a high quality care village for their residents.

“This is undoubtedly a flagship care home for us and one of which we are immensely proud.
“It’s been particularly fascinating to have been allowed access to the incredible archive of historical information and imagery about the worker village, much of which we have utilised for reminiscence purposes throughout the home.

“This is a 21st century home firmly connected to the important history of the Bournville village.”
Peter Roach, Chief Executive of BVT, said: “Gracewell’s nursing and care home is an important part of the overall Bournville Care Village which we believe will set new standards for the integration of housing, health and social care services in Birmingham and beyond.

“We look forward to the home opening shortly and welcoming its first new residents.”
The Trust ran a competitive selection process to choose a development partner to build the care home, which will open later this year.

The home will combine boutique hotel interior design with leading-edge dementia and innovative specialist care facilities and services.
